Welcome back to the Ivory Bride Blog, where we share stories about our real brides and their gorgeous weddings! In today's post, our real bride's wedding was unique and full of personality, like stepping into the couple’s world—and that’s exactly what this artsy, vintage, mid-century-inspired celebration was! With a colorful and creative approach, this bride and groom brought their love for retro aesthetics and personal passions to life. From the thrifted vintage furniture and brass candlesticks to the custom car display and hand-drawn guestbook contributions, every detail was a reflection of their shared interests and individual quirks. The groovy chapel venue, family-centered ceremony, and joyful, hands-on decor made it a wedding to remember—bright, bold, and beautifully “them.”
By our real bride, Sarah:
What was the vision for your wedding?
We wanted a unique, colorful, artsy, and vintage/mid-century-inspired wedding! A celebration of our love and personalities!
How did it go the day-of?
Our wedding was exactly what we hoped for! We were surrounded by everyone we love celebrating the love we have for each other! Every little detail came together so nicely and perfectly represented us as a couple as well as our interests and personalities! We both are really into all things vintage and retro! I love old home decor and Jackson loves old cars so we set up a cute seating area with vintage furniture we have thrifted to dress up our venue a bit! Outside we had a designated parking area for Jackson and his friends to show off their cool old cars for everyone to check out! We dressed up all the tables with colorful thrifted vases and brass candlesticks! We also covered all the tables in paper and gave our guests crayons and colored pencils to draw with (which was my favorite detail) We wanted our guests to have fun and create fun unique memories! We also had a photo booth so everyone could take home a photo and leave one in our guestbook for us to look back at to remember everyone who could be there with us! Our ceremony was beautiful, we shared our written vows and it was officiated by my oldest brother! My two nieces made the cutest flower girls and some of our closest friends a family made up our bridal party. We got married in a groovy and beautiful old chapel that had the retro feel we love. My mom and aunt did so much of the decor and made everything look exactly how we had hoped! It all came together so perfectly and was the bright colorful, artsy fartsy wedding we wanted! We had so much fun!
What is your #1 tip to future brides?
If you are going to have a full-on wedding plan for a long engagement! By the time we got engaged, we both wanted to be married so badly that we didn’t give ourselves enough time to plan a wedding and fully enjoy our time as an engaged couple. Everything that goes into a wedding takes A LOT of time! Deciding on, contacting, hiring, and organizing a bunch of vendors is a lot of work! Finding the dream dress is way more of a challenge than I anticipated. Finding someone to do alterations is difficult, luckily I had my aunt do mine though. Overall there is SO MUCH that goes into wedding planning and I think if I had given myself more time I would’ve felt a lot less rushed on quite a bit of my decision making and I would’ve had the time to add or perfect more creative details! We gave ourselves 9 months to plan our wedding which originally felt like a lot of time but the moment the planning started it felt like we were running behind on just about everything. With our time being split between wedding planning, work, school, and every other day-to-day chore, it felt like we didn’t get to fully enjoy and soak up the fun of being engaged and even the fun parts of planning a wedding! If I could go back and change anything I would give myself another year or maybe have started the planning before we got officially engaged.
