Garden Party Meets Disco: A Backyard Wedding to Remember
Some weddings follow a plan down to the minute. Others are held together by grandma's sewing skills, a saddled-up champagne pony, and a whole lot of love from friends and family — and somehow, those are the ones that end up being the most magical of all. That's exactly the energy our real bride Katie brought to her August wedding, and we are still swooning over every detail.
The Vision
Katie and David dreamed up a "garden party meets disco" celebration — glamorous, playful, and full of joy for everyone in the room. They hosted their big day at a family friend's home in Ephrata, Washington, and leaned on an entirely local vendor team to bring it to life. In fact, their florist had never done a wedding before Katie's — talk about a beautiful first! Their community showed up in the best way, stringing lights, mixing big-batch cocktails, baking individual table cakes, and yes, even providing a champagne pony for the celebration.
The Big Day
With 250 guests to celebrate alongside them, Katie and David planned their ceremony for a later 7pm start, timing it perfectly with golden hour. The result? Stunning light for photos and a comfortably cool evening for everyone in attendance.
One of the standout details of the day was the dessert table — instead of a single showstopper cake, each table had its own individual cake. For a wedding this size, it turned out to be a total game changer, letting guests skip the line entirely and serve themselves without missing a beat of the party.
Of course, no wedding day is complete without a little chaos behind the scenes. Just before the ceremony, David ripped his pants attempting a heel click (as one does), sending the bridal party into a brief panic. Enter grandma, sewing kit in hand, who saved the day with just minutes to spare. David made it down the aisle right on time, and from there, the celebration went off without a hitch.
Katie's #1 Tip for Future Brides
"There is no 'right way' to do things! Our order of operations and getting things sent out probably would have sent a type A bride over the edge, but it all worked out exactly how it was supposed to. Don't kill each other over the planning — as long as you remember that at the end of the day it's you and your spouse, it really won't matter if you sent the invites out a week earlier or not."
Wedding Date & Location:
August 2nd, 2025. In Ephrata Washington (at a family friends home)
What was the vision for your wedding?:
Garden Party meets Disco, fun for everyone! All vendors were local to the area, and we were our flower vendors first wedding (shocking, I know)! Our village really came through in making the magic happen, including stringing lights, making the big batch cocktails, baking the table cakes (one for each table), and even saddling up our champagne pony!
How did it go on the day-of?:
The day was amazing! We had our wedding at a later time (7pm) and the ceremony was at golden hour, making for gorgeous photos and also a comfortable temperature. One of the things we were praised most for was having an individual cake at each table, we had a large wedding (250 guests) and the table cakes made so we avoided a line and also had self service - it was a game changer! Before the wedding we had a mishap - David (the groom) ripped his pants doing a heel click. Yikes… luckily grandma came through and sewed them up before the ceremony! David was back 5 minutes before walking down the aisle, and after that everything went off without a hitch.
